Verbier, Switzerland / The Lodge

Part of Richard Branson’s Virgin Limited Edition collection, and the very epitome of chalet chic, The Lodge in Verbier offers sumptuous luxury in the style of a traditional ski-in log cabin and is one of the most exclusive chalets in the Swiss Alps. The mountain retreat houses an inimitable bleached larch interior replete with oversized sofas, decadent fabrics and a convivial open plan living area, with enormous picture windows. There is minimum fuss at Sir Richard Branson’s ski lodge. Every need is catered for by a team of 15 dedicated staff – including an executive chef who cooks up your delectable feasts. Nine beautiful bedrooms, plus a bunkroom big enough for six kids, are all exquisite – some coming with open-plan bathrooms, others with warming fireplaces, whilst the attic room gets our vote for atmosphere. There is a party room with Playstation, DVD library, karaoke and weekly live music to keep everyone entertained, whilst the Lodge Spa with indoor and outdoor Jacuzzi, a steam room and gym, is the perfect place to relax. Gourmet dining awaits accompanied by fine wines and free-flowing champagne. For the advanced skier, the heli-skiing trips are a sure way to get the adrenalin pumping. Your guide will meet you in the morning to discuss the plan and route. It could be a descent all the way from the top of Petit Combin to Fionnay or a couple of drops on the Glacier du Trient. However, Verbier is not just a winter wonderland – when the snow melts away, it takes on a whole new identity. From June to September this Swiss town is a beautiful base from which to explore. Activities abound, from hiking to biking and horse riding. Follow the valley stopping off to refuel at restaurants or for a cooling dip in a mountain lake. During the summer season you can also fly high and see the spectacular scenery whilst soaring above the peaks – take a tandem paragliding flight or jump on the heli-yoga bandwagon, a trip combining a scenic helicopter ride with remote mountain yoga. This Virgin ski chalet can also be booked by the room during selected dates.

When is the best time to visit Luxury Verbier Holidays?

This is very much a matter of personal preference. Christmas and New Year are very popular; Christmas in the snow is incredibly magical and the resort pulls out all of the stops for New Year’s Eve, with a bar and DJ in the central square from 4pm, a live concert at 10.30pm and fireworks at midnight. The weather can be very cold in January which makes for excellent snow conditions and a lot of people are returning to work and school making the slopes quiet. School holidays in February are very busy, so we recommend that you book in advance if you wish to travel in these dates. The sun begins to shine in March meaning longer days and April is the snowiest month of the season. In spring and summer, the resort offers an array of outdoor activities making it a perfect choice for any adrenaline junkie.
