Mauritius / LUX* Grand Baie Resort & Residences

Earning the title of LUX*’s new flagship, a fusion of glamour, comfort and soul is helping this trailblazer pave the way for the brand’s (and even Mauritius’) future resorts.

A little Maldivian glitz has been sprinkled in the popularly playful village of Grand Baie. By day, the low-key luxe crowd emerge from hiding to slink from their swanky Kelly Hoppen-deigned sanctuaries and their private pools to shaded sun loungers on the area’s most coveted beach. By night, they become social butterflies, being seen sipping on cocktails to panoramic views in the rooftop bar – Bisou – before donning their dancing shoes to visit Asian-inspired restaurant Ai KISU, and its club below. But it’s not all just about fun and games, LUX* Grand Baie is a place with a conscience for both its guests and surroundings, you just have to know where to look.

Travel notes:

  • 116 suites, residences, villas and penthouses
  • Alongside Beach Rouge and Ai KISU, the European-inspired Maison LUX* is an elevated café experience serving fresh own-blend coffee, continental pastries and homemade gelato
  • Kids and teens are encouraged to flex their independence in the PLAY club and Studio 17 that features DJ decks and complimentary water sports
  • Situated in one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Mauritius, expect blanket-soft beaches and a vibrant downtown vibe in Grand Baie
  • Golfing is put on the cards with the resort’s special partnership with Le Golf Mont Choisy – one of the island’s most popular courses
  • Members of the LGBTQ+ community can be confident that LUX* goes beyond with its more inclusive offerings and improving equality for guests

A sense of place

Unveiling itself at the end of 2021, LUX* Grand Baie has the honour of calling itself the first brand new property on the Mauritian hotel scene for over a decade. More boutique in style than its siblings, 116 keys make it an intimate affair with inspiration taken from the modern traveller. The result being a more up-to-date approach of balancing the sleek with the organic; choosing in its architecture to embrace the natural landscape that surrounds it instead of polishing the edges.

In pursuit of…

... a wellness retreat with ‘soul’. Physically, mindfully and spiritually, well-being is a huge focus here. Taking the form of the brand’s “Collectable Experiences”, activities both in-resort and further afield aim to have each guest gather an ensemble of experiences that will stay with them long after they’ve returned home. Think spa treatments to heal the body, digital detoxes to better the mind, and – because the people are credited as the true essence of the resort – a real focus on quality time with resident communities to warm the spirit.

"More boutique in style than its siblings, a more up-to-date approach of balancing the sleek with the organic has been used, embracing the natural landscape that surrounds it instead of polishing the edges."

Wake up here

Fewer rooms means more space to expand, so the walls of every head-resting-hideaway have been stretched outwards. Meaning whether staying in a suite or residence, no one misses out on roomy places to roam. The best and most spacious way to live here, however, is the three-bed Grand Beach Pool Villa – two impeccably-designed floors with lagoon-facing views, butler service and private heated pool.

On location

Now, back to wellness – LUX*’s passion manifested in this resort. Three floors make up the health centre with a gym, the LUX Me Spa and cycling studio that hosts online classes for guests even after they return home. On the top, there’s the open-air studio with two Olympic-standard tracks. Those rest days are taken care of too, savouring the fresh cuisine at Beach Rouge’s beach club and indulging in cocktails and a DJ set at Ai KISU’s private night club.

A Carrier curation

As champions of all things Mauritius, a chance to show off the surrounding nature is always welcomed. No less than seven waterfalls are on the agenda when it comes to this specific trek for the whole tribe; where restoring dips under the cascading water are followed by a picnic lunch with views across the island. We highly recommend taking out a full day to better both the mind and body in this wild landscape.

When to visit Mauritius

Mauritius is a year round destination and experiences a warm subtropical climate, with relatively little seasonal variation in temperatures year round. May to October is dry with comfortable temperatures ranging between 18°C and 24°C with cooling tradewinds coming in from the southeast. Visitors during these dates will often benefit from excellent offers from the hotels. November to April is much warmer and humid with average temperatures ranging between 25°C to 33°C with an increase in rainfall. January and February tend to be the wettest months with the possibility of tropical storms although this is a rarity.
